Valentine’s Day

February 16, 2012

What did you all do for Valentine’s yesterday?

I hope that you were all spending your day with someone special because Valentine’s is a day to love and be loved. Set aside all of the Hallmark cards and doodled hearts on this unique holiday, Valentine’s Day is actually a great reminder for us to feel as much compassion in our lives as possible.

C.S. Lewis says that, “affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness there is in our lives.” I would like to think that that is true. Affection is an emotion that warms our spirits and makes us feel whole. Sometimes we can turn to other things, say that box of Swiss hazelnut chocolate, to make us feel comfort, but nothing quite does it like a big, old-fashioned hug.

Remember to tell every important person in your life how much they mean to you, write a little love note to your significant other, call a family member, or send flowers to your mother. Valentine’s Day may be over, but that doesn’t mean your appreciation for loved ones should go unnoticed.
